Suggested Quilting Patterns for Kids

Block Patterns

The following patterns all make good first blocks. Remember the more seam lines, the more time consuming it will be for the children who are sewing for the first time. Less seams means less frustration for first time sewers as a general rule.

9 patch shoofly block broken dish block

Directions for making these blocks can be found in books on the suggested reading list.

Layout Patterns

Below are some possible layouts for your blocks. Don't limit yourself to the traditional alternate layout. If you find you are short one or two picture blocks, consider making one yourself or making a signature block or a title block for the front of the quilt.
